1950s Dating Advice is Hilarious and Cringy

A magazine article from 1958 that advises women on ‘how to attract a partner’ has surfaced on the Internet and went absolutely viral.

The title is “129 Ways To Get A Husband”. and it was featured in American magazine McCall’s. It included a number of tips, ranging from bizarre and desperate to downright sexist and politically incorrect.

Some of them are absolutely cringy:

“24. Don’t be afraid to associate with more attractive girls; they may have some leftovers.”

“115. Rent a billboard and post your picture and telephone number on it.” Way before social media!

“124. Make and sell toupees—bald men are easy catches!”

“58. Get a sunburn.”

“102. Make your home comfortable when he calls—large ashtrays, comfortable chairs.”

Some are actually really good health advice:

“55. Take good care of your health. Men don’t like girls who are ill.”

“72. Don’t whine—girls who whine stay on the vine.”

“60. Go on a diet if you need to.”

And there’s this gem that cannot be denied:

“121. Stand on a busy street corner with a lasso.”
