Senator Dr. Rand Paul got into it with Dr. Anthony Fauci in a Senate hearing about the efficacy of New York’s success in combatting COVID-19.

Paul argues that the incidence and death rate numbers have fallen in New York thanks to herd immunity, not because of the lockdown and mask mandate.

Fauci disagrees. One way to look at it is to compare New York versus Sweden, which did not have a substantial lockdown, mask mandate, or school closures. Sweden faired much better than New York and both seem to have eliminated the threat from the disease in about the same time.
