Water is one of the most essential nutrients for our bodies. It plays a critical role in many bodily functions, including maintaining healthy skin, regulating body temperature, and aiding in digestion. Additionally, staying properly hydrated is essential for a healthy immune system. In this article, we’ll explore the importance of water to the immune system and why it’s critical to stay hydrated in order to support overall immune function.

Every time I get sick it seems, I realize that I haven’t been drinking enough water and I’m dehydrated. I sometimes attempt to “hyper-hydrate” to catch my immune system up but by the time I feel sick it’s often too late.

How Water Helps Immune Function

The immune system is a complex network of cells, tissues, and organs that work together to defend the body against infection and disease. One of the key components of a healthy immune system is the proper function of the lymphatic system, which helps to circulate lymph fluid and remove waste and toxins from the body. Adequate hydration is critical to the proper function of the lymphatic system, as it helps to maintain the fluid balance in the body and supports the movement of lymph fluid throughout the body.

In addition to supporting lymphatic function, water also plays a critical role in maintaining the health of the mucous membranes in the body. These membranes are found in the respiratory and digestive systems and help to protect the body from foreign invaders like bacteria and viruses. When the body is dehydrated, these membranes can become dry and less effective at trapping harmful particles, which can make the body more susceptible to infection.

Water is also essential for the production of white blood cells, which are the cells that help to fight off infections and disease. When the body is properly hydrated, the production of white blood cells is optimized, which can help to boost the body’s ability to fight off infection.

Staying properly hydrated is especially important during times of illness or infection. When the body is fighting off an infection, it requires more fluids in order to flush out toxins and support the immune system. In fact, dehydration can actually worsen the symptoms of illness, as it can cause headaches, fatigue, and a weakened immune response.

Getting Enough Water

In order to support the immune system, it’s important to drink plenty of water throughout the day. The amount of water a person needs will vary depending on their age, weight, and activity level, but a general rule of thumb is to drink at least 8 cups of water per day. Additionally, eating a diet that is rich in water-rich fruits and vegetables can help to further support hydration and immune function.

I’ve introduced a new trick into my diet in which, every time I’m hungry, I drink a glass of water. Then when I’m hungry again, I will snack on LoS Hi-Fi foods.

In conclusion, water is essential to the proper function of the immune system. It helps to support lymphatic function, maintain healthy mucous membranes, and promote the production of white blood cells. Staying properly hydrated is critical to overall immune function and can help to support the body’s ability to fight off infection and disease. Be sure to drink plenty of water and eat a diet that is rich in hydrating foods in order to support optimal immune health.
